MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police has not monitored any serious threats several days before the Holy Week, PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said on Monday.
“So far we have not received any serious threats but we are not being complacent,” Fajardo said, in a public briefing, adding that they are in continuous coordination with the military and the Philippine Coast Guard.
Fajardo also said the PNP will deploy over 34,000 police officers to increase police visibility nationwide.
“For this Holy Week, we have an initial deployment of around 34,088 [police personnel],” Fajardo said.
She said this number could still be changed, noting that the PNP has a “reserve stand by force” that could be tapped anytime.
Of the 34,088, Fajardo said over 7,000 will be deployed in popular tourist sites.
Holy Week is the most solemn period in the Catholic Church’s liturgical calendar when Christians commemorate the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ over 2,000 years ago.
