2 earthquakes hit Surigao del Sur — Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines — Two earthquakes rocked Surigao del Sur on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to the state seismology bureau, the first one, which struck at 6:52 a.m., was a magnitude 4.3.

Its epicenter was located east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, and had a depth of focus of 17 kilometers.

While no intensities were felt, Phivolcs said that this was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Surigao del Sur in December 2023.

Meanwhile, the second earthquake rocked the area at 7:30 a.m. and was also magnitude 4.3.

Its epicenter was east of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, and had a depth of focus of one kilometer.

Intensity I was likewise felt at Cagwait, Phivolcs added.

The Phivolcs also said that no aftershocks nor damages were to be expected from the two earthquakes.
