MANILA, Philippines — Around 34,000 police personnel will be deployed in commercial areas, transportation terminals and hubs nationwide this coming Holy Week and summer season to ensure public safety, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a Viber message to INQUIRER.net, PNP Spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said this is the initial figure, as they are now in the final stages of their preparations for the organization’s annual “Ligtas Sumvac (Summer Vacation) 2024” campaign in preparation for the influx of tourists nationwide.
“Initial deployment is around 34,000, that is the figure for now,” Fajardo said on Wednesday.
Fajardo, however, earlier said that this figure may change depending on the recommended security deployment of PNP regional offices.
“In a few days, our Oplan Sumvac will be finally crafted. It’s just a matter of harmonizing. Our regional directors were also given wide discretion to adjust their security deployment depending on the security environment in their respective areas of responsibility,” Fajardo said in a press briefing on Tuesday.
She added that of the 34,000, about 7,000 trained tourist police would be dispatched to major destinations.
They will also monitor major transportation points, especially during the coming Holy Week from March 24 to March 30.
