MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos encouraged Filipino Muslims to deepen their spirituality and to be inspired by the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan.
“In this important month, may you continue to enliven your spirituality and practice the sacred text of the Holy Qur’an in your daily undertakings,” Abalos said in a statement on Tuesday.

Ramadan, which began on Tuesday as announced by the Sheikh Abdulrauf Guialani of the Bangsamoro, marks the holy month of fasting for Muslims.
This was due to the moon not being sighted in a moonsighting ceremony on March 10.
“Amid diversity, we are bonded by our monotheistic faith,” Abalos added.
The official also expressed hope that Ramadan would provide opportunities for harmony.

May this month present us all with boundless opportunities toward genuine, inclusive, and “sustained peace and development,” he concluded.
