MANILA, Philippines—It’s up to the courts to decide whether former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo should be allowed to seek medical attention abroad, Malacañang said on Friday.
Edwin Lacierda, Aquino’s spokesperson, said the administration has yet to be officially notified of Arroyo’s health.
“It has not been confirmed officially at least by the medical doctors. The case is now pending before the courts, where it is a plunder case… a non-bailable offense,” Lacierda said at Friday’s regular news briefing in Malacañang.
“It is now [up to] the courts to decide. If they should decide to seek for medical attention, it’s left to the judgment of the court to do so,” he added.
