Lani Mercado won’t run for senator, says Bong Revilla

MANILA, Philippines—Cavite Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla will not run for senator in the 2013 midterm elections, her husband, Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., said on Friday.

Despite being “pushed” to join the senatorial race, “Lani’s not running for senator, for now,” said the senator.

Vice President Jejomar Binay and former President Joseph Estrada’s United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) have cited Mercado-Revilla as a possible member of their senatorial slate for the 2013 polls.

The Lakas-CMD President said his wife could still run for senator in the future. “Di natin alam, minsan, nagbabago ang panahon (We do not know, sometimes situations change).”
