MANILA, Philippines — United States (US) Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo on Monday backed the leadership and economic goals of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Marcos welcomed Raimondo and a US trade mission to Malacañan Palace for a courtesy call. The trade mission was initially announced by US President Joe Biden back in May 2023.

“Interest of private sector in the Philippines and other Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries is very high, but it is with the Philippines that we have longest ties and access, and that’s important,” she added.

According to Raimondo, US companies like Microsoft and UPS has positive outlooks on the Philippines due to its English-speaking workforce.

The Indo-Pacific Region, which the Philippines is a pat of, is on top of the US’ investment list.

In turn, Marcos invited US business leaders to invest in the country’s development.

“We eagerly welcome participation by US investors in these transformative initiatives,” Marcos said.
