Pagasa: Northeast monsoon ending soon; rains likely this Monday
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeast monsoon’s influence on the country’s climate may end by next week.
If this happens, it would signal the gradual transition to the dry season – or what other countries call summer – in the Philippines, according to Pagasa.
For now, however, the northeast monsoon, which is locally termed amihan, is still affecting most parts of Luzon and will bring cloudy skies and light rains across the northern part of the region this Monday, March 11.
“Itong hanging amihan ay inaasahan natin na magpapatuloy pa rin ngayong linggo at posible next week or third week of March normally natatapos ‘yung panahon ng amihan,” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said in a Monday morning public report.
(We expect this northeast monsoon to continue this week, possibly next week, or the third week of March. Normally, the northeast monsoon ends.)

He also said no gale warning will be issued on any of the country’s seaboards for Monday.
