Veco sells used oil to raise funds for community projects

THE Visayan Electric Company (Veco) has partnered with an oil-recycling company Genetron International Marketing for the disposal of its used oil.

Veco will sell the used oil to Genetron at a lower price, of which the proceeds will be used for its corporate social responsibility projects.

Veco Community Relations manager Eric Ching said the company is always looking for ways that will benefit the community by recycling its waste materials.

To recall, Veco recycled its wooden crates used to package electrical equipment by turning them into tables and arm chairs. The furniture products were then donated to public schools within its franchise area in Metro Cebu.

Genetron marketing officer Christianne Guanzon said illegal disposal of oil can pollute the groundwater.

Guanzon said Veco disposed its tons of used oils with polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-free transformer oil, which is not harmful to the environment.
