LTO-NCR apprehends over 3,000 motorists in February this year

MANILA, Philippines — Over 3,000 motorists who violated traffic laws were apprehended in Metro Manila on February, according to the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR).

Citing the latest LTO-NCR traffic safety unit data, Regional Director Roque Verzosa III reported that operatives collared 3,447 due to various traffic law violations last month.

“Of the total, 2,026 motorists were apprehended for violating Republic Act (RA) 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. This includes 301 cases involving unregistered motor vehicles, in line with the ‘No Registration, No Travel policy,'” Verzosa said in a statement.

He noted that the majority of them, or 591, were caught driving motor vehicles with defective accessories, devices, equipment, or parts, while 314 committed other violations, such as driving while wearing slippers.

Others are as follows:

Failure to carry OR/cr (official receipt and certificate of registration) while driving a motor vehicle (225)

Reckless driving (126)

Driving without a valid driver’s license (89)

Did not wear seat belt devices (1,009)

Did not wear a helmet (391)

Aside from these, the Department of Public Works and Highways also apprehended 587 motorists for violating RA 8794, known as the Anti-Overloading Act.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police collared 69 individuals for violating RA 10054 and 130 others for various infractions during the same period.
