The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has assured personnel of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) that no one would be displaced once the government turns over the operations and maintenance of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) for its modernization.

Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista said that part of the concession agreement between the DOTr and San Miguel Corp.-SAP Inc. is that MIAA personnel would keep their jobs.

The secretary reiterated that the incoming concessionaire would prioritize hiring current employees, and that it would offer jobs to employees involved in operations.

The DOTr chief said the MIAA will focus on being an airport regulator while the concessionaire will be in charge of operations and maintenance of Naia.

The secretary also urged MIAA employees to help the government in restoring Naia’s reputation as one of the world’s premier gateways.
