MANILA, Philippines — Former first lady Imelda Marcos is recovering, but she will remain in the hospital, said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday.

Imelda Marcos was hospitalized due to pneumonia.

“My mother is feeling much better. I visited her last night after arriving from Melbourne and she was awake, alert, and even up at midnight,” said Marcos in an X post.

“In consultation with her medical team, it has been confirmed that her fever is gradually subsiding, and she is on the path to recovery,” he noted.

“We’ve decided to keep her in the hospital until she finishes her prescribed course of antibiotic treatment. This measure will also afford her the necessary rest and continuous medical supervision,” added Marcos.

The President thanked the Filipinos for their concern.

The former first lady’s daughter, Sen. Imee Marcos, first announced the 94 year old Marcos matriarch’s hospitalization on Tuesday, saying that she had coughing fits and a fever.

President Marcos Jr. was in Australia for the Australia-Asean Summit when his mother was hospitalized.

While in Australia, Marcos said he spoke to his mother’s doctors, who said that Imelda Marcos was taking antibiotics to relieve her fever.

Speculation of Imelda Marcos’ health condition led to rumors of her death, but the Palace denied them, calling them fake news.
