NBI, police urged to crackdown on ‘risky’ Chinese products
MANILA, Philippines — Reacting to reports of thousands of capsules filled with powdered human flesh recently seized by the South Korean government, a lawmaker on Thursday urged the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to confiscate Chinese products for fear that some of the illegal pills may have reached the country.
Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone called on the authorities to launch a crackdown on Chinese products being peddled as sex enhancers, energy boosters, slimming and skin whitening supplements following the BBC report on the seized 17,500 capsules containing human flesh smuggled from China.
“I’m making this call after BBC reported that Korean authorities seized at Incheon airport Chinese pills which when analyzed in a laboratory [showed that they] contained human flesh, particularly [from] fetuses.”
He said that the Bureau of Food and Drugs should move to ban such products which he said were “mostly being sold in the gray market and in Chinese stores.” He added that the BFAD should look into the possible ill effects of the said products and inform the public of its risks.
The BBC reported that the pills were touted to be a cure to diseases and stamina booster, but were instead found to be a health risk.
