Quirino Avenue in Manila temporarily closes after acid leaked from truck

MANILA, Philippines — Quirino Avenue in Manila was temporarily closed down after a hazardous liquid leaked from a container truck traversing the area early Sunday morning.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the road was closed after a truck containing hydrochloric acid leaked when it reached the corner of Pedro Gil Street around 3:19 a.m.
A hydrochloric acid is “a strongly acidic solution of the gas hydrogen chloride in water.”
It causes severe burns when exposed to the skin or any body part and dissolves in water.
According to the BFP, its personnel, along with three fire trucks and an ambulance, immediately responded to the area around 4 a.m.
The operation is still ongoing.
No reports yet if there were injured motorists or commuters within the area.
