On Women’s Month, solon calls for gender equality, women empowerment

MANILA, Philippines — A lawmaker urged the public on Friday to provide more avenues for gender equality as the country celebrates National Women’s Month in March.

“As we embark on Women’s Month, let us renew our collective commitment to the pursuit of gender equality and the empowerment of women,” House Deputy Minority Leader and Bagong Henerasyon Representative Bernadette Herrera said.

“Together, let us endeavor to cultivate a society where every woman and girl can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the advancement and prosperity of our nation,” she added.

In 1988, National Women’s Month was institutionalized through Proclamation No. 224, while International Women’s Day will be celebrated on March 8.

Herrera also urged the public to give thought to the contributions of women in various fields throughout history, as well as their achievements and challenges.

“Women’s Month serves as a reminder of the invaluable contributions women have made throughout history and continue to make in various fields, including politics, science, arts, and business,” Herrera continued.

“Let us seize this opportunity to reflect on the achievements and challenges faced by women, and let us work together to build a more inclusive and equitable society,” she added.
