PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Victor Yu on Friday handed over the P1-million bounty to a civilian informant of the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (53IB) who provided soldiers lead to the presence of communist rebels in Dumingag town.

The information led to a successful operation where the alleged secretary of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) of the New Peoples Army was killed.

Yu chairs the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-Elcac). He recognized the contribution of other agencies involved in the anti-insurgency drive in the province.

Lt. Col. Terence Ylanan, 53IB commanding officer, said the civilian informer, whose identity was not disclosed for security reasons, “played an important role in the neutralization of the NPA’s high-ranking official in the Zamboanga Peninsula.”

In an operation on Feb. 27, Aprecia Alvarez Rosete, alias Bambam was killed in a brief encounter in Malagalad village of Dumingag town.

The unnamed civilian informant disclosed he was determined to help the soldiers pinpoint the whereabouts of NPA rebels “for the sake of peace in our community.”
