MANILA, Philippines — Tensions arose after traffic personnel of Taguig City on Friday “tried to forcibly enter” the Makati Park and Garden in villages now under the former’s jurisdiction.

“This morning, personnel from the Taguig Traffic Management Office tried to forcibly enter the Makati Park and Garden. They were prevented by security guards and Makati Department of Public Safety personnel,” the Makati City government said in a statement.

A local government spokesperson told INQUIRER.net that the personnel could not provide a reason for entering the premises.

Makati Park and Garden is located at West Rembo and Cembo, villages that used to be part of Makati.

But in 2022, the Supreme Court declared that Taguig should have jurisdiction over Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, where Bonifacio Global City and 10 “Embo” barangays are located.

Despite this, the local government said the park is “legally owned and titled to the city of Makati.”

INQUIRER.net contacted the Taguig information officer for comment, who said they would issue a response soon.
