Miaa takes action as ‘surot’ issue bites Naia Terminals 2 and 3

Suroy issuie bites Naia, Miaa vows action

MANILA, Philippines —  The Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) has ordered the inspection and enhanced sanitation measures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminals 2 and 3 amid reports that bed bugs, locally known as “surot” have bitten some passengers.

The agency was referring to two Facebook posts alleging that the terminals’ steel and rattan chairs harbored “surot” or bed bugs.

The individuals who posted about the incident even included photos of their legs and thighs with what they believed were bed bug bites.

In a statement on Wednesday, Miaa General Manager Eric Ines said that he ordered the terminal managers to look into the matter and provide a report within 24 hours.

Ines also tasked them with recommending solutions to the bed bug problem.

“The MIAA apologizes to the victims and assures them that a speedy resolution to this can be expected,” the agency said.

“Following an investigation, it was confirmed that our terminals received these complaints and that two of those who were bitten sought and were given medical assistance by our Miaa medical teams,” it added.

The Miaa said that the seats identified in the reports have been removed, while disinfection procedures will continue.
