Vice gov cuts down on workers; three new lawyers for Sanchez

ABOUT 15 employees will not be renewed for appointment in the vice governor’s office following the end of their contracts tomorrow.

Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said some of them have not reported to the office.

She said she intends to dissolve the district deputies office created by the late vice governor Greg Sanchez Jr. and terminate the contracts of employees found to be inefficient.

Sanchez left behind 62 office employees of which 39 are casuals, 18 are contractual, seven are co-terminous and three are regular employees.

Magpale said she is meeting the employees one by one for an interview and evaluation of their work performance.

In yesterday’s interview, Magpale said she will conduct a team-building activity for the remaining 47 employees whose contracts will be renewed for another six months.

While she plans to already dissolve the district deputies office, Magpale said she wanted to give its 10 field personnel a chance to prove their worth to the provincial government.

“It will be a ‘functional’ office. Those retained will work for me,” the vice governor said.

Magpale said she will continue the medical missions organized by Sanchez in Cebu’s hinterland barangays. Her office’s first medical mission will be held in Tudela town located in the Camotes Group of Islands on July 2.

As this developed, three lawyers were tapped by Sanchez’s daughter Grecylda “Gigi” Sanchez-Zaballero to pursue his administrative complaint against Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Lawyers Joseph Randi Torregosa, Waldemar Gravador and Reynato Galeon will handle the “accroachment” case filed by the late Sanchez. Torregosa, incumbent vice mayor of Buenavista, Bohol, will be lead counsel for the case.

The team includes lawyer Myrna Limbaga.

“I have full confidence in this group,” Gigi said. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
