CFA loses anew in Suzuki

THE Cebu Football Association (CFA) team put itself in a must-win situation after dropping their matches in Iloilo and Bacolod in the Viasayas eliminations of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki Cup U23.

The CFA team suffered its second loss at the hands of the Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA), 0-2, last Monday in San Carlos City.

Last Saturday, CFA was edged by the Iloilo Football Association (IFA), 2-1, in Barotac Nuevo.

The CFA team is manned by booters from the University of San Jose Recoletos with reinforcements from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation and Don Bosco Boys Home while NOFA is manned by Ceres-University of St. La Salle.

With the two losses, CFA team must now win its final home game on May 19 against the Negros Oriental Football Association (NORFA) at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

Currently, CFA is at third place in the standings with seven points equivalent to a win-draw-loss record of  2-1-4. Only the top three teams will advance to the national finals.

The division is led by NOFA with 18 points after having won all of its six matches so far. At second is IFA with 12 points and a record of four wins and one loss.

At fourth and fifth places are NORFA and the Leyte Football Association (LFA), respectively. NORFA has 4 points and totes a record of 1-1-3 while LFA has yet to win a match.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
