More than 52,000 rice farmers and their families will undergo training to help improve local rice production, the Philippine Rice Research Institute said.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) is offering various agriculture courses to rice farmers and their family members to upskill the agriculture sector.
Tesda has trained over 170,000 rice farmers nationwide between 2020 and 2023 when it started offering training programs through the scholarship program of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund.
These are farm field school on the production of high-quality inbred rice and seed certification and farm mechanization and rice machinery operations.

Tesda also trained them on drying and milling plant servicing, agro-entrepreneurship, pest and nutrients management and digital agriculture course.
Tesda Secretary Suharto Mangudadatu is encouraging rice farmers to enroll in these courses to learn the new and better way of farming with the aid of science and technology. —JORDEENE B. LAGARE
