MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. attributed 1 percent of the country’s employment rise to a transport network vehicle service (TNVS) firm, the Palace said on Wednesday.
In a courtesy call in Malacañan on Tuesday, Marcos met with executives from Grab Philippines, led by Grab Holdings Inc. co-founder and chief executive officer Anthony Tan.
“Your impact on unemployment numbers [comprises] about 1.1 percent of the increase in employment in the past year and half. That was Grab, so that’s the 300,000 that we’re talking about has a significant effect,” Marcos told Grab officials present.
“Actually, there are upstreams and downstreams that come with it. So yeah, there are jobs created not only the actual operators,” Marcos added.

Tan told Marcos that Grab’s acquisition of motorcycle hailing app “Move It” boosted the company’s booked ride services from 8,000 a day to 300,000 a day.
“It’s not just about the number of jobs, Mr. President, it’s the quality, increasing livelihood,” Tan told Marcos.
In an earlier post, Marcos supported relaxing regulations on TNVS.
“We’re working with Grab to legalize motorcycle taxis and relax regulations on TNVS,” Marcos said in a Facebook post.
