MANILA, Philippines—The general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority came to the defense of airport security guards who, according to the Philippine National Police, had committed lapses during the brawl between actor Raymart Santiago and his companions, and Inquirer columnist Ramon Tulfo on Sunday.
“The way I saw it, they did not commit any lapses. I believe they did their job well and they responded properly to the incident,” Jose Angel Honrado told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Wednesday.
But he was quick to add that the MIAA would just let the PNP look into the matter.
“We’ll just let them investigate. Anyway, security agencies are under the PNP. It’s the one that certifies security agencies,” Honrado said.
Chief Superintendent Tomas Rentoy, head of the PNP’s Supervisory Office for Security and Investigation Agency, earlier said that the Lanting Security and Watchman Agency and its security guards might face sanctions for committing lapses during the brawl, including failing to break up the fight immediately.
