MANILA, Philippines — A 68-year-old tricycle driver was shot allegedly by his drunk 33-year-old nephew in Tanay, Rizal, over the weekend.
Police said the two engaged in a heated confrontation on Sunday afternoon over a still-undetermined issue.
In a report, the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO 4-A) said the suspect, who was only given the alias “Maria,” a male despite the alias, purportedly went to the house of his uncle, Eglicerio Tipan, at Sitio Lalabasin, Barangay Sampaloc, around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 18.
The nephew reportedly caused a scene in front of Tipan’s house, demanding his uncle to come out. Shortly after, a witness claimed hearing a gunshot and then saw the armed suspect hit the Tipan’s head with a pipe, according to police.

Authorities said they received a report about the shooting incident around 5 p.m. on Sunday after Tipan was rushed to a hospital in Morong, Rizal. Tipan’s nephew, however, managed to flee onboard a red motorcycle.

“It also appears that the motive of the incident emanated from an old grudge between the suspect and the victim,” PRO4-A disclosed in the report released Monday.
Police said Tipan was transferred to a hospital in Quezon City, where he is currently recovering. A manhunt was launched against the suspect, police added.
