MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck off a Cagayan town early Monday in an area frequently hit by tremors, according to state seismologists.
The tectonic earthquake occurred 56 kilometers northwest of the area at 2:22 a.m., with a depth of 20 kilometers, as per the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said that this time, aftershocks are unlikely after the tremor.

Instrumental Intensity III (weak) was recorded in Claveria, Cagayan, and Pasuquin and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, while Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) was logged in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
No felt intensities were reported.
Felt intensity is the ground shaking actually felt and reported by the people through the Phivolcs Earthquake Intensity Scale while instrumental Intensity was indicated by the ground shaking Intensity measured by the intensity meters in and around the epicentral area.
In September 2023, five people were hurt, and minor damage was recorded after an earthquake struck Dalupiri Island.
