Race to reduce electric consumption launched in Cebu City barangays

THE Visayan Electric Company (Veco) announced the launching of its new corporate social responsibility program called “Konsumo Mo, Minusan Ko”—a race to reduce electricity bills of barangays in Cebu City.

The announcement was made during the second general assembly of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) of Cebu City, which was graced by Vice Mayor Joy Young, city councilors and former congressman Raul Del Mar.

Veco community relations manager Eric Ching said the program aims to reduce the energy consumption of barangays that cannot pay their bills on time.

The project will look into the electric consumption for the past five years of all barangays and get the statistical data and determine the average yearly electric usage of each barangay.

The barangay with the lowest electric consumption will be given a project such as infrastructure, multi-purpose building, rewiring, computerization, bags and school supplies and library kit.

Cebu City is the pilot project, but it hopes to cover the whole Metro Cebu, Veco’s franchise area.

Ching said Veco will not make money from this campaign but will only take the lead in helping the barangays reduce energy consumption.

To avail of the program, barangay leaders are encouraged to coordinate with Veco and the ABC office.
