As early as November 2023, Manila Water has already exceeded its projected water service connection target for 2023 by almost 20 percent.
From January until November of last year, Manila Water’s new domestic connections reached up to 23,701. The year’s target was pegged at 19,898.
Since 1997, the East Zone concessionaire has installed and energized 1,167,231 water service connections consisting of over 1.1 million domestic connections and over 56,000 commercial/industrial connections. This development assures that its over 7.6 million customers are provided 24/7 clean and potable water.
Moreover, the water concessionaire ensures water safety and maintains the proper water pressure in the east zone of Metro Manila and parts of Rizal. The company has been consistently complying 100 percent with the stringent parameters of the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water. This guarantees that water until the customer’s meter is safe to drink.
The expansion of water supply services is made possible by the company’s low non-revenue water (NRW) — or water that is wasted due to leaks and illegal connections. As of the fourth quarter of last year, the company’s NRW remains below 15 percent, with an average of 13.59 percent. The World Bank standard for NRW is at 25 percent.
On the other hand, the company also beefed up the installation of new sewer connections to protect community health and the environment. As of November 2023, Manila Water is providing sewer service to a total of 288,490 accounts and has laid and maintained a total of 468.41 kilometers of sewer lines. Furthermore, the company emptied over 103,000 septic tanks from January to November of last year.
“In conjunction with the massive investment in water supply augmentation and building wastewater treatment plants, Manila Water is steadily expanding the reach of its water and sanitation services to the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal. The company’s major goal is to provide 24/7 clean and potable water and top-quality sanitation to its growing customer base,” Manila Water’s Director of Corporate Communications Affairs Group Jeric Sevilla said.
