Chief Inspector William Angway Jr. Tagakawayan police chief, identified the fatality as Jose San Diego, councilor of Barangay (village) Bamban.
Police said that at around 12 p.m., while the victim was overseeing an irrigation project in Barangay Payapa as foreman/timekeeper, the suspect, Rey Geron, arrived and confronted the victim about his unpaid two-day salary as laborer.
Angway said the amount was “only a few hundred pesos.”
A heated argument between the two erupted until the suspect suddenly drew a handgun of still unknown caliber and shot the victim several times.
The victim died on the spot while another worker, Estelito Capatia, was hit in his shoulder by a stray bullet, police said.
Angway said the suspect escaped after the shooting and is now the subject of police manhunt.
