BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — A woman on her way to attend a court hearing was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen while she was waiting to ride a jeepney in a village here Wednesday morning, the police said.

Superintednent Nicolas Torre III, Batangas city police chief, said Zenaida Barza was going to the court hearing to face charges of possession of illegal drugs or violation of RA9165 when she was killed at around 8:05 a.m. along Tolentino Road in Barangay (village) Kumintang Ibaba.

Torre said the gunmen fled on board a black Honda motorcycle, apparently with the weapon, a gun of still unknown caliber.

Police are conducting a follow-up operation to identify and arrest of the assailants.
