MANILA, Philippines — A fire broke out in a residential area in Quezon City on Tuesday evening, injuring a Korean man and causing damage to several structures in the area.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Quezon City, the fire occurred at New Capitol Estate 1 in Barangay Batasan at around 8:30 p.m.

Sanny Pineda, officer-in-charge of the Batasan Hills Fire Brigade and one of the first responders to the scene, informed INQUIRER.net that a 63-year-old Korean man named Jongho Kim, who was residing in one of the affected houses, sustained injuries.
Kim suffered third-degree burns on his right hand and multiple second to third-degree burns on other parts of his body.
The fire escalated to the first alarm by 9 p.m. but was brought under control about an hour later at 9:51 p.m., according to an update from the volunteer group Txtfire Philippines.
The BFP declared the fire out at 10:44 p.m.
Photos taken of the incident show a bright orange glow surrounded by a plume of thick grey smoke emanating from the houses.

Pineda noted that four houses were damaged in the fire, but they have yet to assess the total cost of the damage.
