MANILA, Philippines — Hot and humid weather, with a chance of rainfall, will prevail over most parts of the country on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The easterlies influence the weather pattern, warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean affecting most of the country, and the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, impacting Northern Luzon, Pagasa explained.

In its 4 a.m. advisory, the state weather bureau noted that Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region will experience overcast skies due to the northeast monsoon, with some isolated light rains expected in the evening.

Pagasa expert Benison Estareja mentioned in his morning weather report that the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, may also experience cloudy skies, although rainfall is not anticipated.

“In the remaining parts of Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa, the chance of rain remains low, including Metro Manila,” he said in Filipino.

Eastern Visayas, however, may be dampened by scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, Estareja continued.

For the rest of Visayas and Mindanao, sunny weather will prevail, but with chances of light rains in the evening and early morning on Friday due to easterlies and localized thunderstorms, the Pagasa expert said.

Moreover, the easterlies will bring high temperatures to some parts of the country, including Metro Manila, where temperatures may be as high as 33ºC, Metro Cebu with a maximum temperature of 31ºC, Metro Davao with 33ºC, and Zamboanga City with 34ºC.

As for the country’s seaboards, Estareja noted that no gale warning is hoisted over any coastal area as the northeast monsoon remains relatively weak.

No low-pressure area is forecast to enter or form within the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday, state meteorologists said.
