MANILA, Philippines — The Diocese of Sorsogon on Tuesday said the “Filipino Katoliko” group soliciting donations in the province is not  affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.

“In light of the above, I would like to inform our People of God here in the Diocese of Sorsogon that these representatives of “Filipino Katoliko” under Most. Rev. Fenis, Jr., are in no way connected with the Roman Catholic Church, nor therefore are they in any way connected with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sorsogon,” Sorsogon Bishop Jose Alan Dialogo said in a letter on Sunday.

The letter said that the group was soliciting money among people which they claimed will be used for church equipment and other materials.

“Their accompanying letter tells of their intent, which is to precisely solicit voluntary donation “to purchase materials for (their) (c)hurch improvement & office furniture, fixtures & equipment…,” Dialogo dded.

“As you entertain them, if you would, weigh with your own prudence the authenticity & veracity of their plight, so that each one of us would act accordingly, as Christianly & full of charity may be,” the letter concluded.
