MANILA, Philippines — Give rice, not flowers this Valentine’s Day, Agriculture Undersecretary Roger Navarro said on Tuesday.

“Ang dapat i-regalo natin sa Valentine’s Day sa ating mahal sa buhay, bigas, huwag na yung flowers. Kasi hindi makain yun, matinik pati. Kasi ang rosas ay matinik, pero matamis ang bagis. Bigas pa more,” said Navarro in a press briefing in Malacañan Palace,

(We should give rice as a gift this Valentine’s Day, not flowers. Because you cannot eat flowers, and it is thorny. Roses are thorny, but rice is sweet. Give more rice.)

Navarro earlier met with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., who he was assured of the country’s rice stock.

“All our crops commodities, especially for rice and corn, pork and chicken, are very stable, and there will be no problem in these coming months. So, we don’t need to worry, relax, sit back and watch the show,” said Navarro.
