CJ Optical collars two titles in TBA hoopfest
CJ OPTICAL captured two titles last Sunday in the Talisay Basketball Association (TBA)-2012 summer basketball tournament played at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
First, CJ Optical nipped archrival Park n’ Go, 83-81 to rule Category B then followed this up with a close, 64-60 win over Arbedomz in the Category C finals.
In Category B, CJ Optical led by single digit in the first three periods then repeatedly repulsed Park n’ Go’s rallies in the fourth for the two-point victory.
Cual Campo led CJ Optical with a game-high 20 points while Abet Villaver added 16 points. Aikan Cabañero paced Park n’ Go with 14 markers.
In Category C, CJ Optical pulled off early with a, 21-12 rally in the opening period with Johnson Calub accounting for 14 points in that run.
Calub led CJ Optical with a game-high 17 points while Reno Valiente paced Arbedomz with 15 markers.
Earlier, Oklahoma upset erstwhile leader Bulls, 69-63, to capture the championship of the Legend Category.
Hayes Restauro and Felix Villoria fired 17 and 14 points, respectively for Oklahoma, while Rene Cabrera paced Bulls with 19 points.
TBA president Romy “El Presidente” Rama was on hand to award the cash prizes, trophies and medals to the top performing teams and individuals right after the championship games.
Winning the coveted MVP crowns were Abet Villaver for Category B, Johnson Calub for Category C and Hayes Restauro for the Legend division.
