Citing the brain drain in the health care and information technology (IT) sectors, President Marcos has proposed that the government provide more trainings and scholarships for workers in exchange for a few years of service in the country before they leave for jobs abroad.
Marcos stressed the importance of implementing a return-service agreement for workers benefitting from the government’s training programs in a meeting with the jobs sector group of the Private Sector Advisory Council on Thursday.
On Friday, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a statement that Marcos is supporting a proposal to “continuously train” more workers in the said sectors and “then require them to serve at least two to three years locally” before they look for jobs elsewhere.
The PCO said this push was meant to “address human capital flight” or brain drain in the health care and IT sectors as more skilled Filipino professionals leave the Philippines to work in other countries.
