Tourism chief: Chinese community played integral role in PH history

MANILA, Philippines — Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco on Friday acknowledged the role of the Chinese community in the Philippines in forming the latter’s history.

According to Frasco, the two cultures have evolved to unite the two distinct communities into common shared experiences.

“In the Philippines, the Chinese community has played an integral role in shaping our history, contributing to the diverse cultural landscape that defines our nation and people. The fusion of Filipino and Chinese customs is evident in our culinary delights, festive celebrations, and familial ties,” Frasco said in a statement.

“From the lively dragon and lion dances to the delectable flavors of traditional Chinese cuisine, we revel in the shared experiences that bring us together,” she added.

The tourism chief made the statement a day before Chinese New Year.

She also invited the public to experience the melding of two cultures in the country,

“This Chinese New Year, we invite everyone to explore the enchanting fusion of cultures that our beautiful archipelago has to offer. Immerse yourself in the captivating stories told by our historic Chinatowns, savor the flavors of our local Chinoy delicacies, and witness the colorful festivities that showcase the blend of two cultures,” she continued.
