MANILA, Philippines — Bangsamoro Parliament members said Friday that the 2025 Bangsamoro Parliament Election will demonstrate the region’s firm commitment to democracy as it will reinforce its efforts toward genuine “self-determination and self-governance.”

Member of Parliament (MP) Amir Mawalil said next year’s poll will be a milestone for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

“The upcoming elections in 2025 mark another milestone in our journey towards genuine autonomy and empowerment,” Mawallil said in a statement. Mawallil is the president of the Bangsamoro Peoples Party (BPP), which will be participating in the 2025 elections as a political party standing on the principles of good governance, equitable representation and the democratic participation of all sectors in BARMM.

“Through the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), we have laid the foundation for a more inclusive and participatory governance framework that allows us to chart our own path toward progress and development,” he added.

MP Rasol Mitmug Jr., meanwhile, said the election will also showcase “unity and cooperation” among BARMM leaders as it will likewise ensure that democratic rights, as well as integrity and transparency, is being exercised. Mitmug is the secretary general of BPP.

“This serves as a rallying call for unity and cooperation among BARMM leaders, stakeholders, and the broader community,” he said in the same statement.
