Over 3,000 cops deployed in Mindanao to assist residents affected by floods

MANILA, Philippines — Over 3,000 police personnel were deployed in flood-affected parts of Mindanao due to the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA), according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Based on data PNP released on Tuesday, a total of 3,659 police personnel were dispatched to various parts of evacuation centers (ECs) in Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Caraga Region.

Of the figure, 316 were search and rescue personnel, 108 were in ECs, 30 were tasked to handle the women’s and children’s protection desks, 53 were patrolling the evacuated areas, and 134 were in vital installations.

Meanwhile, 3,018 are on standby, 18 of whom have already been dispatched to various parts of Northern Mindanao and the Davao Region.

Earlier, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the recent weather disturbance has already affected about 1,122,975 individuals within the region.

PNP’s data showed that as of Monday (February 5), 90 ECs in the Davao Region and 48 ECs in the Caraga Region were already occupied by about a total of 44,473 affected residents.
