MANILA, Philippines — A 19-year-old college student was arrested on Friday for evading and crashing into a police officer at a checkpoint in Cavite, the Bacoor City Police Station (CPS) said.

According to authorities, the student, who was given the alias “Jericho,” was observed driving a motorcycle with two others who were not wearing helmets around 10:30 pm on February 2 in Barangay Molino 6, Bacoor City in Cavite, which resulted in authorities flagging him down.

However, instead of stopping, the two passengers jumped off the motorcycle and ran away, while Jericho drove towards officer Pat Ambrosio, hitting his chest, left arm, and knee.

Ambrosio managed to hold on to Jericho, while another officer helped him, and apprehended Jericho.

Authorities said that Jericho did not have a driver’s license and that he had a 0.074 percent blood alcohol content result on the breath analyzer test.

Cases of reckless imprudence resulting to physical injury, direct assault, and other traffic regulatory cases are being prepared against Jericho, the Bacoor CPS added.
