Pagasa: Saturday may be cloudy with rain due to 3 weather systems

MANILA, Philippines — Most of the country may experience cloudy skies with rain on Saturday due to three prevailing weather systems, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, will bring overcast skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon, according to the state weather agency’s advisory.
It is also forecast to trigger partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon, the weather bulletin noted.
As for the rest of the country, Pagasa said the easterlies will cause slightly overcast skies with rain on Saturday.
“Makikita natin dito sa latest satellite images ‘yung mga makakapal na kaulapan na gumagalaw pa-kanluran papalapit sa ating bansa, ito ‘yung epekto ng easterlies o ‘yung mainit na hangin galing sa Karagatang Pasipiko,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said in a public report on Saturday morning.

According to Villamil, these clouds may likely move closer to the Philippines later Saturday and bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental.
For Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Villamil said either the easterlies or localized thunderstorms will cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
Pagasa likewise said that the trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) south of the country is still affecting parts of Mindanao that overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may be expected over Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
“Patuloy nating mino-monitor itong LPA sa labas ng ating Philippine area of responsibility, at kaninang alas-tres ng umaga huli itong namataan sa layong 455 kilometers southwest ng Zamboanga City,” Villamil said.
(We continue to monitor this LPA outside our Philippine area of responsibility, and this morning at three o’clock it was last spotted at a distance of 455 kilometers southwest of Zamboanga City.)
He noted, however, that the LPA’s chances of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next few days remain low.
Pagasa did not issue a gale warning over any seaboards of the Philippines on Saturday.
