MANILA, Philippines — A Senate panel has invited former President Rodrigo Duterte to be among its resource speakers during the second hearing on the controversial people’s initiative for Charter change.

An official guest list from the Senate panel on electoral reforms and people’s participation showed that Duterte was invited to attend the hearing, which will be conducted in Davao City this Friday, February 2.

INQUIRER.net sought the committee’s word regarding the response of the former chief executive to its invitation. The panel said: “He did not confirm anything. Wala ring sinabing hindi pupunta,” the panel said.

Duterte opposed the people’s initiative, which gathered signatures to support amending the 1987 Constitution.

He also alleged that First Lady Liza Marcos was behind this people’s initiative along with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s cousin, Speaker Martin Romualdez.
