LUCENA CITY—Police urged business owners to hire private guards for their establishments following the arrest of members of a robbery gang preying on gasoline stations in the central part of Quezon.
Senior Supt. Erickson Velasquez, Quezon police chief, said gasoline stations and Internet shops, especially along the Maharlika Highway, were the recent targets of criminals preying on businesses in remote areas.
“They were easy targets due to lack of security and the remoteness of their location,” Velasquez said after the arrest of five suspects in a string of robberies in the province.
The suspects were arrested in Sariaya town. One of them is a 14-year-old who police said was involved in at least 14 cases of robberies on gas stations, Internet shops and residences in the towns of Tiaong, Candelaria, Sariaya, Tayabas, Pagbilao and this city.
