Malabon almost back to normal after ‘Falcon’

EXCEPT for a few problems, it’s back to normal in some cities in the northern part of Metro Manila as floodwaters that rose to hip level at the height of Tropical Storm “Falcon” slowly subsided.

In Barangay Dampalit—the worst flood-hit area in Malabon City—residents who moved to evacuation centers at the height of Falcon’s onslaught were busy cleaning their houses of mud.

“People can walk in the streets since floodwater levels have significantly gone down,” barangay treasurer Jaime Cruz told the Inquirer.

Meanwhile, classes finally resumed at Dampalit Elementary School-Unit 1 in Merville Subdivision as the floodwaters which rendered the ground floor inaccessible to students receded from thigh-high to leg-deep level.

“Parents can take their children to school with the use of boots,” school principal Gina Ong told the Inquirer.

On the other hand, floodwaters that submerged the ground floor of Dampalit Elementary School-Main also went down to ankle level but school officials were complaining about the lack of electricity in the area.

A teacher, Cherry Rodriguez, told the Inquirer that since Monday morning, they have been relying on “natural lighting” although the students have been complaining about the heat in the classrooms.

She said that officials of the Manila Electric Co. had already been alerted about the problem although there was still no electricity in the school as of yesterday morning.

At Panghulo National High School, classes remain suspended due to flooding, officials said.
