MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police said on Wednesday that it has not monitored a destabilization plot against the administration amid a deepening rift between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte.

PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said they remain focused on their mandate and unaffected by the current political climate, adding, “Our PNP chief always tells our cops to ignore political noise.”

“I talked to our chief PNP and he said there’s no destabilization plot, no coup d’etat,” she said as she appealed to interest groups to spare the PNP from politics.

Over the weekend, Duterte asked the military and police to “protect the Constitution and people” amid efforts to amend the charter through a people’s initiative.
