‘No need to be rude’: Romualdez open to ‘meaningful discussion’ with Imee
MANILA, Philippines — House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez said he is open to having “meaningful discussions” with Senator Imee Marcos after her heated remarks on the people’s initiative.
According to Romualdez, he would like to address the matter “with the utmost respect and civility that it deserves,” adding that he is ready to work with Marcos and address any concerns for the betterment of the country.
“The phrase ‘Walang gamot sa kakapalan ng mukha mo (There is no cure for your shamelessness),’ as expressed by Senator Marcos, reflects a passionate stance on issues we both care deeply about. As public servants, our primary focus should always be on the welfare of our constituents and the progress of our nation. It is in this light that I choose to interpret her words as a call to engage more deeply in our shared commitment to serve the Filipino people,” the lawmaker pointed out.
“Ang pakiusap ko lang kay Senator Imee. Hindi po kailangan ng bastusan. Pinakikinggan tayo ng mga kabataan at hindi magandang ehemplo ang ganito,” he said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
(I appeal to Senator Imee: no need to be rude. Young people listen to us and this is not a good example.)
Romualdez also said that he “committed to maintaining a professional relationship with all his colleagues in the government, including Marcos,” highlighting the need for public servants like him to set an example amid the challenges faced by the country.

In her opening statement during today’s hearing, Imee Marcos said anyone who claims that the Senate does not care about the issue has no shame.
“Isa lang ang masasabi ko: Walang gamot sa kakapalan ng mukha mo,” said Marcos.
(I can only say one thing. There’s no cure for your shamelessness.)
She did not identify who these individuals were, but after she delivered her opening statement, she repeatedly presented a video where Romualdez was seen saying “wala kayong pakialam sa PI (people’s initiative).”
Marcos previously disclosed that her cousin has been upset at her since October 2023 after she openly expressed her support for the Dutertes.
Romualdez, on the other hand, repeatedly denied issuing a directive to start a people’s initiative bid to amend the Constitution.
