Drunk driver rams Cavite checkpoint; cop dead, 1 hurt

LUCENA CITY — A policeman died and another was injured on Sunday, Jan. 28, after they were hit by a speeding vehicle while manning a checkpoint in Silang, Cavite province.

The Police Region 4A (PRO-4A) reported that Patrolmen John Karl Delyola, 27, and Adriane Atienza, 29, were manning a checkpoint along Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Tubuan-2 at 2:40 a.m. when a speeding Isuzu D-Max driven by alias “Jemuelle,” 22, hit them.

Due to the strong impact, the cops were thrown off, landed on the pavement, and suffered serious injuries.

The victims, both members of the PRO-4A Regional Mobile Force Battalion, were brought to a hospital in the locality, but Delyola died while undergoing treatment.

Police reported that the driver, now under police custody, was under the influence of liquor when the incident happened. INQ
