MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday described  teachers the “lynchpin of a national standard for learning competencies.”

During the Basic Education Report 2024 delivery, Marcos praised teachers for their work, saying they needed to be well-paid.

“Through the ages, there has been one unvarnished truth in education: teachers occupy the core of learning. They should be at the center of our great reform movement,” said Marcos.

Marcos also said that the government will continue to roll out programs to help boost competencies based on experiences and tested best practices.

According to the President, teachers were the first to be consulted during the ongoing review for the K-12 system.

“Teachers are incubators of ideas. Teachers are innovators. So as we move forward, they will be the lynchpin of a national standard for learning competencies,” said Marcos.
