MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has approved the promotion of two one-star generals of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The two police generals — previously colonels — were promoted during a ceremony on Wednesday presided by PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Among the promoted were Brigadier General Restituto Arcangel, Police Community Affairs and Development Group director, and Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, Manila Police District director, bringing the total number of PNP generals to 120 — one general, five lieutenant generals, 22 major generals, and 92 brigadier generals.

“As you assume higher positions, the weight of greater responsibilities rests upon you. I have complete confidence in your ability to face the challenges ahead,” Acorda told the newly promoted officials in a statement.

“The rank you now hold and the solemn oath you have taken serve as constant reminders of the immense trust bestowed upon you by the organization, your fellow officers, and the Filipino people,” he added.
