MANILA, Philippines — A former convict who yielded P6.8 million worth of suspected crystal meth, locally known as shabu, was arrested in Cebu City, police said on Tuesday.

In a report, the Central Visayas Police Regional Office (PRO 7) said the 41-year-old suspect — alias Jono — was arrested in a police buy-bust operation in Barangay Mabolo on Monday.

Based on police records, the suspect was a former convict for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. He served a sentence at the New Bilibid Prison, Muntinlupa City, from 2011 until 2016.

“After a series of casing and surveillance, operatives positively validated that the said suspect is currently managing his brother’s illegal drug business who is presently detained at Abuyog Penal Colony, Abuyog Leyte,” PRO-7 said.

Police said he served as the middleman to sellers and users and was positively identified by other violators as their source of illegal drugs during authorities’ tactical interrogation.

The seized shabu is at PRO-7’s Forensic Unit for examination.
