6 cops test positive for illegal drug use, says PNP

MANILA, Philippines — Six Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel tested positive for illegal drug use during the random drug tests conducted from January 1 to 18, according to its chief, Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.

Acorda said 4,614 PNP members — 4,517 uniformed and 97 NUPs — underwent random drug testing during the said period. Of the six personnel, he said five came from the National Capital Region Police Office, while the other one came from the Police Regional Office 8 (Eastern Visayas).

“Regrettably, six individuals tested positive for methamphetamine […] Based on the reports, the confirmatory tests were done and yielded positive results also,” the PNP top official said in a press conference.

Acorda likewise said that they are already preparing the appropriate charges against the erring personnel.

Aside from random drug tests, the PNP chief reported that they were able to confiscate about P132.9 million worth of narcotics from January 1 to January 18 this year.

He added that a total of 1,376 anti-illegal drug operations resulted in the arrest of 1,661 drug personalities carrying illegal drugs.
